Intensive Communication Skills training

  • Did you fail the last Royal College CASC exam?
  • Did you find the experience particularly stressful?
  • Did you feel you became more anxious during CASC than most other candidates?
  • Are there scenarios in CASC where you feel particularly out of your depth?
  • Do you worry that situations may come up in CASC where you have no idea what to do and you fear you may freeze?
  • Do you have no idea why you failed and disagree with the feedback?
  • Do you feel you need more personalised direct input about your individual consultation skills so you have a better chance of passing next time?

If so, then perhaps you need the Oxford Psych Course Intensive Communication Skills training.

The Intensive Communication Skills training aims to work with a small group of psychiatrists to identify individual strengths and weakness, diagnose areas of communication deficit, and suggest and implement personalised strategies for improvement, both for CASC and for daily clinical practise.

The Intense Communication Skills course is facilitated by a team of very experienced trainers and actors who use interactive techniques to help doctors develop their style, skills and confidence in consulting with patients. The sessions are individually tailored, and a personal progress plan is created for each candidate at the end of each course.

Who is the course for:
  • psychiatrists eligible to take the CASC exam.
  • psychiatrists who have failed CASC at least once.
  • psychiatrists who are motivated to change practise in order to succeed in CASC and communicate better in clinical practise.

Places are limited to 16 per course, and are allocated on a first come first served basis.

The next course will run on the weekend of 31st July/1st August 2010; location - Oxford. To book a place on the Intensive Communication Skills Training, click here.
